Class Work and Homework for Friday, 1/31/20

In class today:   We completed WB p. 128 for "Bad Hair Day" and "Utah Girl Suspended."   We completed the comparison of "Taggot, the Blacksmith's Daughter" and "This is Me" (song from The Greatest Showman ).   We read "The Thank-you Note" on WB p. 131 and completed WB p. 132.   We took our vocabulary quiz.   After the quiz, students read "The Wall" WB p. 133 on their own and the "I Think" column on WB p. 134.   Time permitting, we then read "How I Taught My Cat to Love Poetry." WB p. 135 for gist and theme on our own. Homework :  None for this weekend.  Enjoy the Super Bowl!!  

Class Work and Homework for Thursday, 1/30/20

In class today:   Mrs. Kimmel, our Guidance Counselor, did a lesson with us.  Please bring your text Good Masters! Sweet Ladies!  to class tomorrow to turn in.   Homework:  Please study for your poetry vocabulary QUIZ tomorrow!  A lot of students did not turn in their sentences.  It is not too late!

In class , we completed the concrete poems and organizers for the following WB pages: 118-119; 121-122; 124-125; and 126-128 (WB p. 128 for "Bad Hair Day" and "Utah Girl Suspended") Homework : Finish 3-poems worksheet along with figurative language/poetic elements worksheet.  POETRY VOCABULARY QUIZ ON FRIDAY! 

Class Work and Homework for Monday, 1/27/20

IN CLASS:   We began analysis of concrete poetry by watching "Hackschooling Makes Me Happy" (Youtube) and completing WB p. 109.  Then, we analyzed concrete poetry and completed the following WB pages: p. 110 (example in class) "Advanced English"  WB pp. 113-114 "TyrannosaurBus Rex"  WB pp. 115-117 "Point A to point B"  WB pp. 118-119 "My Sister is Crazy"  WB pp. 121-122. HOMEWORK :  Complete 3 poem worksheet and figurative language/poetic elements Worksheet due Thursday.

Class Work and Homework for Thursday, 1/23/20

In class , we have finished our organizer and template for the argumentative essay.  The final copies were typed and turned in today.  Students were given a poetry practice worksheet to complete--due next Wednesday as they finished the essay.  Homework :  Complete Readworks #9.  Poetry worksheet ("No Thank You" and 2 practice poems) is due next Wednesday.

Class Work and Homework for Tuesday, 1/21/20

In class:  We completed the organizer for our end-of-unit essay (Are we medieval?)  We then started on the template with the goal of finishing our essays tomorrow. Homework:  Complete ReadWorks #9:  MLK.  Finish the Poetry Vocabulary Sentences due Thursday.  Each sentence should include the word and a context clue from the definition.

Class work and Homework for Thursday, 1/16/20

Today in class:   1.  We reviewed and analyzed our performance on the CFA for objectives 6.2, 6.3, and 6.4. 2.  We completed the rest of the monologues in Good Masters! Sweet Ladies!  as follows:         Simon:  Text p.34/WB p. 94        The Crusades:  Text p. 36/WB p. 99        Isobel:  Text p. 42/WB p. 100        Nelly:  Text p. 75/WB p. 101        Drogo:  Text p. 77/WB p. 106 3.  Time permitting, we continued to work on Poetry Vocabulary sentences (NB p. 24). Homework:   Complete ReadWorks #8 Paired Passages.  Complete any late assignments since we are at the end of the grading period.

Class and Homework for Wednesday, 1/15/20

In class today, we completed the Common Formative Assessments and Blackout Poems.  We read the following stories in Good Masters!
