Class work and Homework for Friday, 2/28/20

In class:   We completed reading Chapter 1 in World Without Fish .  Then, we finished workbook pages 10-11 and analyzed a diagram of the ocean food web.  Next, we began to read Chapter 2 text pp. 21 and 28--33.  We constructed a gist statement for the reading then completed text-dependent questions in our workbook pp. 12--13.  Next week, we will take our mid-unit assessment which will measure our ability to read and find answers to text-dependent questions.  It is important to practice this skill! Homework :  Complete Readworks #12:  "Natural Selection"

Class Work and Homework for Thursday, 2/27/20

In class :  We took a vocabulary quiz for Module 3 words.  We completed the text-dependent questions in your WB pp. 7--9.  We read Chapter 1 pages 1-8 and 17-19 in World Without Fish .  We then completed text-dependent questions in your workbook pp. 10--11,  Homework :  Readworks #12 "Natural Selection"

Class Work and Homework for Wednesday, 2/26/20

In class, we completed our Paideia seminar for the 3 poems we read about adversity/Black History Month.  We turned in the poems, the paideia questions, and a processing sheet.  Homework :  Study for Module 3 vocabulary quiz tomorrow.  Your 20 vocabulary sentences should be done for HW check!  Complete Readworks #12.

Class Work and Homework for Tuesday, 2/25/20

I n class today :  We finished discussion of text-dependent questions on WB p. 5-6.  We then read the rest of the Introduction text pp. xii--xvii completing gist sticky notes and adding to our vocabulary word catcher. We then worked on text-dependent questions for this section in the WB p. 7--9.  Homework :  Paideia tomorrow.  Vocabulary sentences due tomorrow.  Don't forget to complete Readworks #12 by Sunday!

Class Work and Homework for Monday, 2/24/20

In class today:  We close read the Introduction to World Without Fish    pages xii--xvii.  We wrote gist sticky notes and added vocabulary words to the Word Catcher WB p. 2.  We then began to complete the text-dependent questions on WB pp. 5 and 6. Homework :  Complete Module 3 vocabulary sentences due Wednesday.  There will be a vocabulary QUIZ on Thursday.  The paideia seminar will be on Wednesday.  You must have the questions complete to participate.  This is a MAJOR grade. Readworks #12 is due on Sunday (article on Natural Selection).

Class Work and Homework for Wednesday, 2/19/20

In class:  We started the introduction to World Without Fish  pp. x--xii.  We then completed workbook pages 2 (Vocabulary) and 3 (Text dependent questions). Homework :  Prepare for paideia seminar by completing the Paideia Guiding Questions worksheet.  This is a MAJOR grade and the worksheet must be done in order to participate. 

Class Work and Homework for Monday, 2/10/20

In class , we took a poetry break and read some poems for Black History Month by some exceptional African American poets including Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes, Nikki Giovanni, and James Weldon Johnson.  Then, we created a concrete poem to go along with a poem individually chosen by each student to illustrate their understanding of the poem.  Homework :  Readworks #11 is due Sunday:  "Moonrise."  FINISH your concrete poem/monologue due WEDNESDAY. 

Class Work and Homework for Thursday, 2/6/20

In class:  We completed the rough drafts of our concrete poems/monologues and got a peer edit on WB pp. 149--150.  Then, we worked on final drafts of poem/monologue including coloring the illustrations on the poem. Time permitting:  We began poem analysis for "Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout Would Not Take the Garbage Out." Homework:   Readworks #10: "The Road Not Taken"

Class Work and Homework for Monday, 2/3/20

In class today:   We reviewed homework from last week: 3-poem worksheet and figurative language/poetic elements worksheet.  We processed "The Wall" WB p. 133 and 134. We read "The Thank-You Letter" and processed WB pp. 131 and 132. We listened to the audio version of "The Thank-You Letter" and compared/contrasted on a Venn diagram WB p. 136 We read a letter from President Ronald Reagan WB p. 137 and compared/contrasted it to "The Thank-You Letter" WB p. 138.  We discussed the mid-unit assessment for tomorrow.  HOMEWORK:  Readworks #10:  "The Road Not Taken"
